DAVAO CITY – It’s the dream all parents would want to come true: to see their child go to college and receive their hard-earned diploma.
Bounty Agro Ventures, Inc. (BAVI) Live Sales Attester Ivy Donayre Estudillo got just that – and more.
Her daughter, Pete Maverick Nicole Estudillo, graduated as the University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao’s first-ever summa cum laude. With a cumulative weighted average grade of 1.1971, the 22-year-old Estudillo made history, receiving her bachelor’s degree in food technology.
The graduate’s mother, Ivy, has been with BAVI since 2014. Starting out as a Sales Administrative Assistant at Davao Business Center, she went on to become a Live Sales Attester in 2018. This job requires Estudillo to be on field in the wee hours of the morning, checking the weight of live chicken being sold or transferred. This is on top of her full-time ‘job’ as mom of two children, Pete and Jake.
According to Estudillo, it’s faith in God that helped her and her parents to raise Pete to be an achiever.
“Be God-fearing,” she said. “Parents should be an example to their children.”
She also advised parents to give their children freedom to follow their passion — in Pete’s case, food technology.
“Just guide your children – don’t tell them exactly what do you,” she said. For Estudillo, freedom, faith, and pagsisikap (perseverance) are the ingredients of success.
